Princethorpe SignsMedia Release 23/05/03 - Signs are bright at Princethorpe Networked
signs are utilised at Princethorpe College to keep pupils and staff
informed. The signs, supplied by Daconi (based at the TechnoCentre,
Coventry University), are placed in main corridors and staff rooms.
“The signs allow rapid transfer of messages reducing the need for staff to leave desks to locate people,” explains Alex Darkes, Development Director of Princethorpe College. “In
the same way that e-mails, voice mails and faxes receive far more
immediate attention than letters or scribbled messages, scrolling signs
attract a fair bit of attention.” The
technology is especially relevant to schools, colleges and
universities. When integrated into existing LANs, network signs enable
effective communication throughout buildings and across a campus.
Wireless LANs allow signs to be placed in locations that are hard to
wire and permit movement of signs for optimum viewing. Keith Jones,
Daconi’s Director emphasises, “The mission of Daconi is to install
new networked technology that makes cost-effective use of existing
resources to meet educational customer requirements. The LED signs are
controlled via intuitive windows-based software from existing PCs which
was readily mastered by reception staff.” |
